We’ll pick you up from your hotel early in the morning in a private van, and travel through the Andes Mountains. Breakfast is in the charming town of Paucartambo. You can enjoy a hot drink, eggs, pancakes, juice, and more. Breakfast isn’t included in the price of the tour. The trip will continue into the Cloud Forest, where the scenery and climate change quickly. In the Cloud Forest, there will be chances to explore and look for wild animals like monkeys and birds, including the bright-red Andean Cock of the Rock. In the late afternoon, we’ll arrive at Pona Lodge for dinner and some time to relax.
After breakfast, our journey continues into the jungle. Passing through the small towns of Patria and Pilcopata, there will be a chance to stop at a basic pharmacy or shop if needed. Our boat will be waiting in the port town of Atalaya. The trip down the Madre de Dios River is a beautiful way to enjoy the jungle. Along the way, we’ll be on the lookout for animals on the riverbanks, such as water birds and capybara. In the late morning, we’ll pay a visit to a local hot spring, and enjoy lunch on the boat afterward. After a couple more hours, we’ll arrive close to Nuevo Eden and walk from the riverbank to the Bungalow. After settling in, you’ll set out on your first hike to explore the jungle. As the sun sets and day turns to night, you’ll use flashlights to search for tarantulas, snakes, and frogs. A hearty dinner will be waiting for you in the Bungalow.
After breakfast in the bungalow, we’ll head to the boat to continue downriver, deep into the jungle. Along the way, we’ll have the chance to see caimans, monkeys, and, with a lot of luck, a jaguar. Lunch will be served on the boat. We’ll arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon, where you can settle in and rest before dinner.
We’ll make the most of this special chance to be deep in the jungle, surrounded by pristine nature. We’ll visit Salvador Oxbow Lake in the morning, riding a silent “pontoon” boat and looking for Giant River Otters and birds. From there, we’ll follow a path back to the lodge, always searching for animals. After lunch, we’ll embark on another jungle trek to an observation tower where we can see the surrounding nature from an aerial view. Dinner will be at the lodge.
Early in the morning, we’ll take our boat back upriver, again on the lookout for jaguars and other animals. Lunch will be on the boat, and we’ll arrive to Nuevo Eden in the afternoon. After settling into the Bungalow, we’ll head to the nearby mammal clay lick. We’ll spend the night in the camouflage house to watch for tapirs and deer. You’ll sleep in a sleeping bag, be given a mosquito net, and have a boxed dinner while enjoying the darkness and sounds of the jungle.
Early in the morning, we’ll head back to the Bungalow, and to the river where the boat will be waiting for us to retrace our steps back to Cusco.
